Sunday, July 9–Saturday, July 22, 2017, Residential-Only Program
If you are looking to pursue a career in healthcare, Adelphi’s pre-college nursing course will provide you with an opportunity to learn more about the nursing profession. Often described as both an art and a science, nursing is a profession that reflects the core values of caring, diversity, integrity, and professionalism.
Introduction to the Nursing Profession for High School Students, taught by our prestigious College of Nursing and Public Health faculty, brings together high students to explore the profession of nursing. Through daily interactions with faculty, you will learn about the foundational concepts of the profession including nursing roles in various healthcare settings, ethical and legal concepts of the profession, cultural competency, and evidenced based practice.
During this summer program, you will tour our state-of-the-art Clinical Education and Simulation Lab that houses SimMan, and personally experience this hands-on simulation technology. You will learn about a variety of healthcare topics that are integrated into our nursing program; this includes medical-surgical nursing, women’s health, pediatrics, gerontology, pharmacology, and nutrition.
Field observations at area hospitals, lab and simulation experiences will give you first-hand knowledge about the nursing profession. At the end of the program, you will present on a research topic of your choice that is based on the learning experiences you have had during the summer!
